When Installing Joomla the search component is setup by default to search content, categories, sections, contacts, weblinks and newsfeeds. If you really dont have any rss feeds or care for users searching contacts then you can disable these searches.
What the search component searches is controlled by deactivating or activating the search type plugins. In the admin backend plugin manager you will find plugins named ‘Search – …’ . Just disable the areas that you dont want searched. This will make the search process a little faster.
